Shopping for a gift for our wonderful house and doge sitter, Kierstyn Hollibaugh.
Light cotton and shinny, perfect for her trip to Las Vegas in August.

More gifts for Kierstyn, a light up pen and a good luck voodoo doll.

Broadway
The mountains are visible today and the tourist are coming out to shop.

This is one of the jewelry stores owned by the cruise lines.  There are at least ten of these stores on Broadway St.
Notice the salesmen standing in their suit and tie, looking like vultures ready to make a killing.

What a great house.
It is owned by a contractor in town, very nice guy.

This car was in front of an antique store I had to check out. I didn't purchase a thing,
looks like I already have everything thats in the store.

I purchased a piece of Alaskan Jade and a fish bone fossil.
I will make a necklace of these relic when I get home.

The mountains in the background make a beautiful setting for all the old buildings on Broadway St.

As you walk around the town and rail road station you can't help but feel like you are back in time,
during the Gold Rush Days.

Statue in Memorial park to depict the natives guiding the miners through the pass.

The man who did the sculpture just died on June 13, 2013.
He and his son died in a plane crash.

The picture of the artist and his son was just placed there last week. 

I couldn't resist taking this picture from my hotel balcony.
Suitcases being loaded onto bus, last night the room boys carried all the cases to rooms,
now this morning loading back on cruise ship bus.
Since the first day of our trip we have seen thousands of people travelling to Alaska!

Bob spoke to the travelers.

June 27, 2013 Thurs, Day 16

June 27, 2013  Thursday   Day 16   Skagway
Left Ferry at 3:00 am, check in to the Westmark and got a few hours sleep.

There are not too many tourist on the street, they must have stayed on the ship because of all the rain.

Skagway has boardwalks through out the town, this
 was to deal with the mud in the old days before paved streets.

Can not see the mountains, too much fog and rain.

We found our favorite cafe, best food in town.
When we were here last year we ate here all the time.

Owners Skipper and Nils were great, a friendly place with great home made goodies.
All the food is home made.
Their families were visiting and mom was baking cakes.
We had German chocolate cake and a strawberry cake.
Stayed for an hour talking to other customers.

I found my Raven earning in her store. It is the first and only time I have ever found Raven earning.

I have never seen any Raven earnings.  These are made from horn.

Fog is slowly lifting.  White Pass train. 

This engine was used to clear the snow from the railroad tracks so trains could  travel.
Sometimes the pass gets snow in July and August and they still use a plow car like this one.

These trains still run giving tourist rides up to the pass and two days a week you can go over the pass.
The train will take you to Carcross and back.
We didn't ride the train because the fog was so thick and $149 each was too much to pay to just see the fog.
When we leave Skagway we will ride over the pass to Carcross in the Raven.

This bar was brought by train from Chicago.

Shop on Broadway, owned by local, where I purchased my Seal rib bone beads.
You will see the necklace later.

This saloon has tours of the upstairs bordello from the 30's

The bar and dinning room has these bed pans at the top of the ceiling, they go all around the room.

Our dinner, of course a pizza, Bob's favorite.



Red Onion was a popular saloon/bordello during the gold rush days.
Now it is a favorite restaurant and bar.
We called it a night and went back to hotel with our left-over pizza.

I got bored on the rainy day and had to string this necklace
Three turquoise and two coral stones I bought in Juneau
The small squarish beads are seal ribs bone.
They were bought in a store here in Skagway, they come in a little bag full.
I used a double strand of dental floss to string the beads so I could wear them on the trip.

I like this pen holder.  Good idea to make.
