Ninth Day June 20 On Prince of Wales Island

Leaving Harris River campsite

Bruce and Kathy left for  El Capitan Cave, on the northern side of the island. We had to go to Craig and get our permission to go in the cave. At the department of forestry, they let the guides know we we were coming

We were shocked how large the slugs were. When moving they could stretch out to 10 inches.
When compressed it looked like it came from outer space

Flowering pod on skunk cabbage plant

In Klawock  we met Anna Peratrovich who in a Tlingit she greeted us at the gas station and was very happy to see visitors on her island

On  the way to Craig we passed huge pile of ceder logs at a lumber mill

The smell was great.

Summer in Alaska Construction in Craig

At the Forestry office we saw a fellow checking out Raven.
Ladies in office said we should meet him. Turns out Mo, the forestry narrator on the ferry told us to look for this guy Bill in Craig, who tours with a motorcycle. His wife Sara talked to Sharon on the Hollis ferry yesterday and Sharon gave her our card and told her to follow our blog. So Bill was following our blog with his wife, looked out his window saw Raven, his house is next to the forestry building it was meant for us to meet him.

Raven parked at Forestry Bldg. House in back is Bills

They were following our blog, turned and looked out his windows and said, "there's the bike"
They then came over to meet us.

Bob and Bill Altland

Bill took his KLR from Craig Alaska to the tip of South America. He and his wife Sarah,  just returned from touring two-up on BMW's through 9 countries in eastern Europe

Impressive Windshield

Bill and Sarah invited us into their house.  Powered up our electronics, enjoyed visiting and invited them to visit us in Wasilla

View from their deck.

Leaving Craig
On the road to El-Capitan

Lot of construction and detours

Tracy Chapman and Joe Hubbard
2 hr wait for road to open visited with these folks

Second delay for construction 30 min. wait

Trucks wanted to get ahead of us, they told us we probably couldn't make it through the next stretch.

We held our space in front and traveled, we didn't want to deal with thier dust and them ripping up the road more then it was. It was slow and sure but we made it.

The  first truck behind us was Joe Hubbard we met at the detour he told me to go slow and he had my back, and not to let the other trucks intimidate us

THANKS JOE

Fighting the truckers all the way!!!

Joe watching our back

Sharon kept yelling this is the Dakar

The gravel and ruts sharp rocks tore up the tires

On the road, many deer, eagles, one bear the got Sharon's attention

Finely reached El-Capitan campground

WE thought we would never get there, when we got there they had dinner cooking that they shared

 Thanks Guys

From the dock we saw a lot of star fish in the water look good one little on on the rock

Sunset from the dock

 Tucked in for the night
Tomorrow into the cave

 Long Day ... Good Night

  2. I imagine those rough roads under construction jiggled the insides a bit. I am sure it would have just made me want to pee.

I liked the pictures of the slugs. We get the same variety here in Oregon. They are huge, but so neat.
