We start the day at 2:00AM morning, I frantic wake up Sharon looking for my phone, it was crazy, we searched under everything, time was getting short we were ready to leave the boat. I insisted the the young teen in the isle over had to pick it up while I slept. Sharon said no any teen his or her right mind would want my old 3.0 g phone.
Low and behold Sharon gets down on her knees and finds it between the seat and arm of the chair.
As we are laughing, the call comes to go to the car deck and begin to disembark.
Now the fun starts
The bike would not start!! This has never happened, apparently the battery was dead.
The crew was naturally in a hurry to board the next cars, so the pressure was on. You need a key to get to the battery, have to take off luggage and seat to use the key, had to stuff everything I took off ,in side car. No room for Sharon she walked off the boat. The crew-person with the charger the charger clamps were to big to fit on battery. but somehow it got done. Drove off the boat to meet Sharon in parking lot. It is now 3:30 in the morning. Sharon looks at me and says I'll go get us a room.
I left the bike run for a while and it got it's charge back.
The Landing is going to be our home for the next day and a half
Bike is fine, starts well, slept for a couple hrs, woke up the and whole city of Ketchikan was out of power. Was able to get some warm decaf coffee and oatmeal for breakfast. But the day got better as we got out and about, touring the city of Ketchikan
Went across road and made out travel plans for tomorrow
This is our ferry that is going to take us to Prince of Wales (POW)
Sharon found the Salvation Army.
What to do with a burl.
New Town set up for cruise ships
They get 4 a day WOW!!
Last cruise ship left at 4:00 Stores all close
Older Part of town
All streets have crosswalks. All cars stop when someone steps out, I watched this girl do it, and then I tried a great idea
Sign for Creek Street
This was a historical site set off from street with shops.
Long ago this was the red light district
A creek run thru the whole town
Another Native enterprise tram goes up to coffee house and deli.
There are seals swimming in the creek through town
Looks like a ghost town now, but in the morning there will be thousands shopping
As we left dinner and walked to our room we noticed a Harley parked next to my bike
Sharon commented, looks like the Raven has a friend for the night.
POW tomorrow
any ideas what caused the battery to be dead? check your ground wire for looseness?
ReplyDeleteKetchikan is where a ural rider, Bruce aka whojigger, lives. He must have been out fishing as I am sure you'd have noticed his blue/white URAL.

What caused the battery to be dead was my Garmin it gives you a choice to leave on after key is turned off or to power it down. I apparently left it on. I'm making a mental note to make sure I turn off from now on.
DeleteBatteries will die when at the least convenient times. I don't know how they know when the least convenient time is but they do.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pictures of Ketchikan. My grandparents met and were married there way back in the day when my grandpa was in the coast guard and was on leave. I've never been there though.
Trobairitz I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures.
